About

I am an artist-educator living and working in Windham Maine. In 2007, I graduated from the Maine College of Art & Design with a BFA in Photography. I returned to the College in 2010 to study Art Education. In the ten years that have passed I have taught High School students at both Sacopee Valley High School, a small rural school in the Western part of the state, and currently at Windham High School, a larger school just outside of Portland. At Windham High School I teach Photography, Video Production and Graphic Design. Both my students and I enjoy working in a beautiful dark room where I still teach traditional wet development, as well as digital methods.

Over the past two years I have been working to revitalize my own artistic practice while also being a mom and full time educator. I use both digital and film photography to create work that explores identity and experience.

Artist Statement

This summer, as a participant in the MAT800 class, I was supported in making new work for the final show titled Post. The word Post was chosen by a group of ten full time educators that were grappling with what it means to still be a working artist. How does art making function for us as we move through life? Many of us have, or are, raising children while also working as full time educators. What does our work look like in the after? The after hours, the after another profession, the after a kiddo goes to bed.

My favorite thing to do with my camera is snoop classic cars. I go out at night, or pull over suddenly in the middle of the day, and find a mechanics lot to look for treasures. I love old cars. Working this way has lead to many conversations with people within my community. Being a gearhead has been a big connector between myself and many students as well. Lucky for me, I live in a town that is rich with classics and like minded dreamers.

The images above are a new exploration into a body of work titled Passengers. I began to think about ghosts in my "after". These ghosts are sometimes the people I have lost, sometimes life experiences that haunt, and sometimes my own demons. After a certain amount of loss, or after too many conversations with the past, one can become quite comfortable with ghosts. They become a passenger in the front seat on a quiet ride. The become tired of being taken seriously.

My work consists of images that were both fabricated and discovered. I am currently working with a digital SLR equipped with a flash. All of the above photographs were taken during the month of July, 2021 with exception of the snow covered car. I am looking forward to continuing this work.
