About the Exhibition

House of Pansies is an exhibition of ceramic work by MECA&D seniors Olivia Propeck and Emmett Jorgensen. In this exhibition, the artists delve into the nuanced exploration of modern Queerness through the versatile medium of clay. Jorgensen’s work combines aspects of playfulness and masculinity through vibrant glazes and intuitive forms. His vessels explore the complex transition from childhood to manhood through a Queer lens leaning into the nuanced aspects of gay culture. Propeck’s work combines Greco-roman inspired forms, Sapphic iconography and video to provide a contemporary representation of the quieter domestic spaces of Queer life. The works of Jorgensen and Propeck navigate the diverse landscape of Queerness using ceramics and serve as a testament to the ability of clay to dissect the intricacies of contemporary Queer experiences.
